There is something about sheep (Ovis aries) that makes them quite funny. I seem to find them in most images that I take. Some consciously, and others as small white, woolly forms on the hillsides in the remote areas. The fact that there are sheep is probably an indication of how remote these areas are – they are just not capable of arable type agriculture, and so sheep take up the slack.

Technicolour Sheep
This is a group of sheep I saw whilst driving through an unknown ‘Dale’ in the Yorkshire Dales. It was close to Darnbrook House Farm and the painted markings on the sheep stood out against the snow and provided a dazzling accent to the almost monochrome landscape.
Ladies in Waiting
As I was out walking the Lake District and heading towards Walla Crag. As I passed the entrance to Rakefoot Farm I came across these sheep all lined up by a gate just people watching. As I walked past, all their heads turned simultaneously to watch me pass by.
Top O’ The Heap
Whilst walking in the Yorkshire Dales one winter day between the bulk of Pen Y Ghent and the expanse of Fountains Fell I came across the collection of Swaledale sheep apparently walking all over their food. They appeared to be playing games by taking turns to climb on top of the hay bales.

Long and Woolly Road
This is a main road in the middle of the Isle of Lewis. It was a detour on the way to Stornoway. Not a fast road by any means and the sheep straying all over it saw to that.
